The ISU meets with the Government of Cameroon in Yaoundé

The Implementation Support Unit (ISU) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) was in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from the 12th to the 16th of February 2023 to organize the CCM Francophone Africa Universalization Workshop. The workshop that took place on 15-16 February 2023 aimed to give Francophone African Signatory States and States not Party the opportunity to discuss their obstacles to CCM ratification or accession and explore concrete solutions to those challenges.

Prior to the workshop, the ISU met with government representatives of the host country, Cameroon, in its capital, Yaoundé.

On 13 February 2023, the ISU team met with Dr. Christian Pout, National Correspondent of the Francophonie and Acting Director of the United Nations Department, at the premises of the Ministry of External Relations of Cameroon. The President of the CCM 11th Meeting of States Parties (11MSP), Amb. Abdul-Karim Hashim Mostafa, was represented by Mr. Mohammed Ridha Al-Haidari of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq in Geneva. During the meeting, the final details of the workshop were discussed and agreed upon.

The ISU team and the 11MSP President’s representative met with officials of the Cameroonian Ministry of Defence on 14 February 2023 and were warmly received by the Director of the Department of Inter-Army Materials, Col. Abdon Joseph Tsimi, and Deputy Director, Col. Japhet Sylvain Ondanga. Col. Ondanga informed that he was the focal point for matters related to the work of the CCM and assured of his participation at the Francophone Africa Universalization Workshop.
