Peru’s fulfilment of its CCM Article 3 obligations and the achievement of a historic milestone for the Convention
The Implementation Support Unit of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (ISU-CCM) is pleased to announce that Peru as a State Party to the CCM has fulfilled its obligation under article 3 of the Convention pertaining to the destruction of cluster munitions stockpiles.
Heartfelt congratulations to the Government of Peru for its dedication to implementing its CCM Article 3 obligations before the stipulated deadline of 1 April 2024.
Importantly, the destruction of Peru’s cluster munition stockpiles marks the completion of cluster munitions stockpile destruction for all State Parties to the CCM.
In the context of current armed conflicts and humanitarian crises, State Parties relentless adherence to the CCM serves as a beacon of commitment to strengthen the norm against these indiscriminate and inhumane weapons and contributes to strengthen humanitarian disarmament and the principles it is built upon.
Peru’s achievement, together with the State Parties who declared fulfilment of their article 3 obligations this year, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and South Africa not only signifies the dedication, but also the collective pursuit of the CCM community of a safer future in protecting civilian lives from the deadly and destructive impact of cluster munitions.
This outstanding achievement is cause for great celebration and will continue to be celebrated by the CCM community at the upcoming 12MSP.
