“Meet the Makers” conversation series launches with insightful dialogue with the Mines Advisory Group

The Implementation Support Unit (ISU) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) inaugurated its “Meet the Makers” conversation series on 24 January 2024. The event, attended by around 30 participants, featured distinguished speakers from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and provided key insights into mine action and its connection with CCM implementation.

Ms. Josephine Dresner, Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships at MAG, discussed the crucial role of an operator in linking national and international efforts while supporting the development of sustainable national capacity. She detailed MAG’s community-centred approach and close cooperation with national authorities to achieve its humanitarian goals.

Dr. Riccardo Labianco, MAG’s International Policy Manager, provided an exploration of the development of the humanitarian disarmament framework. His discussion delved into the intersection of humanitarian disarmament with human rights, human security and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Following the presentations, a thoughtful discussion unfolded, exploring various aspects of mine action. The exchange of ideas during the meeting enhanced the understanding of the participants regarding the challenges and complexities in this area.

The ISU anticipates a series of engaging dialogues throughout the year, with the aim to foster collaboration and offer valuable insights into the work of various actors involved in mine action.
