Mexico pays courtesy call on the ISU team
The Director General for Multilateral Affairs and Global Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Dr. Eduardo Jaramillo, paid a courtesy call on the Implementation Support Unit (ISU) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) on 31 March 2023. He was accompanied by officials from the Permanent Mission of Mexico in Geneva, H.E. Mr. Fernando Espinosa, Deputy Permanent Representative; Mr. Alonso Martínez, Counsellor; and Ms. Mariana Roa, Advisor.
At the 10th Meeting of States Parties in September 2022, Mexico was designated as the Presidency of the 12th Meeting of States Parties (12MSP) that is scheduled to be held in September 2024. During the courtesy call, Mexico reiterated its utmost commitment to advance the humanitarian goals of the CCM and acknowledged the excellent work of the ISU Director, Ms. Sheila Mweemba, whose mandate will be coming to an end on 30 April 2023. Mexico also discussed with the ISU its plans and potential areas of priority during its upcoming presidency.
The ISU Director expressed her appreciation of Mexico’s active engagement in the work of the Convention since before its adoption, as Mexico was among the core States in the Oslo Process. Mexico’s commitment to the work of the CCM is also demonstrated by its longstanding membership of the Convention’s Coordination Committee.
