At least every five years, a Review Conference is convened according to Article 12 of the Convention “to review the operation and status” of the Convention, including looking at its past implementation and identifying how such implementation should be undertaken in the future.
Every Review Conference has adopted an action plan, which, besides the Convention itself, regularly becomes the framework of reference for the whole CCM community.
The Review Conferences so far
- the First Review Conference (1RC) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions took place from 7 to 11 September 2015 in Dubrovnik (Croatia).
- The Second Review Conference (2RC) of the Convention on Cluster Munitions took place in Geneva, Switzerland, in two parts on 25-27 November 2020 in virtual format and on 20-21 September 2021 in hybrid format.
In 2026, Lao PDR will host the Third Review Conference of the Convention, which will take place from 14 to 18 September 2026.
