Promoting the CCM Norm through National Legislation

The ISU Director will provide opening remarks on the importance of national implementation measures to reinforcing the CCM norm and promotion of good practice.
The CICM will present their long-term work in advocating for the passage of the 2021 legislation passed in Italy banning nationally based companies from investing abroad in firms producing cluster munitions and anti-personnel mines. Tibisay Ambrosini will highlight key civil society lessons learned in the process and which may be applied elsewhere. The event will be introduced by the ISU Director.
Legal Advisor at International Committee of the Red Cross, Fahad Ahmed will present the ICRC’s role in supporting states in their Article 9 obligations to domesticate the convention and how these initiatives help to implement the Convention in letter and in spirit.
The IPU will discuss its role in supporting awareness raising efforts of CCM and IHL complementary work among parliamentarians including via the Committees on IHL and Peace and Security and other avenues.
