DESCRIPTION:“Meet the Makers” conversation series: Meet representatives of MAG   \n \nEVENT DETAILS\n\nDate: Wednesday, 24 January 2024\nTime: 10am to 12pm\nVenue: Conference Room 6A, Tower 3, Maison de la Paix\n\n \nOBJECTIVES\n\nThe ISU is organizing this series in line with our mandate to serve as an interface between State Parties and the international community on issues related to the implementation of the CCM and to facilitate communication among States and other relevant actors. \nThe “Meet the Makers” series aims to provide insights into the various actors involved in mine action, particularly focusing on CCM-related issues. \nThis conversation with Ms. Josephine Dresner and Dr. Riccardo Labianco, our distinguished speakers from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), will kick off a series of engaging dialogues throughout the year.\n\n \nINFORMATION\nSpeakers and topics\nMs. Josephine Dresner: The role of an operator in linking the national to the international and supporting the development of sustainable national capacity\n \nDr. Riccardo Labianco: The development of the humanitarian disarmament framework, its current place in international policy and law, and its interactions with other regimes\n \nSpeaker biographies\nMs. Dresner is the Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships at the Mines Advisory Group (MAG). She first joined MAG in 2010 as Business Development Officer and was appointed Director of Policy and Strategic Partnerships in late 2022. Prior to her current position, Josephine worked in a range of policy and partnerships roles and also as Country Director in both Myanmar and Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has specialized in developing MAG’s armed violence reduction work at both policy and programme level. Josephine’s background encompasses private sector finance and local government, and she currently serves as a Trustee of Manchester-based human rights organization the Omega Research Foundation.\n \nDr. Labianco is International Policy Manager at the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and an international lawyer specializing in public international law, with a particular focus on the intersection of human rights and disarmament. His role in MAG involves bridging MAG’s experiences on the ground with international fora to produce evidence-based, needs-driven policies. Before joining MAG, Riccardo was a lecturer at SOAS University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies) and worked as humanitarian principles policy advisor at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He holds a PhD in International Law and an LLM from SOAS University of London, and master’s degree in law from the University of Trento, Italy.
