The Beirut Conference was the first regional Conference on the Convention on Cluster Munitions in the Middle East. Government and NGO-representatives from Bahrain, France, Germany, Ireland, Lebanon, Norway Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Yemen and United Kingdom participated together with United Nations, clearance agencies, the ICRC, the CMC and other actors involved in cluster munitions related activities in the region.

The Conference had two main parts; on the responses to the 2006 cluster munition crisis in Lebanon and on the Convention on Cluster Munitions and its importance as a framework for resource mobilisation. The Conference was opened by Lebanon’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fawsi Saloukh and Norway’s Deputy Minister for Development, Mr Håkon Gulbrandsen. (Pictured left and right.
