Special Event; Closing in on entry-into-force of the Convention

A major effort is underway by governments, civil society and international organizations to promote signature and ratification of the Convention on Cluster Munitions. This endeavour is closing in on its objective.

At this special event, States will be invited to:

Announce their signing of the Convention on Cluster Munitions;
Announce the deposit of their instrument of ratification of the Convention on    Cluster Munitions;
Provide an update on progress towards signature, ratification and implementation of the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

The event will give the opportunity for other States to provide updates on their efforts relative to the Convention.

Signing event at UN, New York

18 March 2009

At a special signing event on 18 March at the UN in New York, The Lao People´s Democratic Republic deposited their instrument of ratification and The Democratic Republic of Congo signed the Convention on Cluster Muntions. This special event was organised by the UN and the Cluster Muntion Coalition, and the Convention remains open for signature and ratification for all states.
